VEX Hard At Work On 'Thanatopsis'

May 24, 2008

Texas-based metallers VEX recently announced the addition of vocalist Orlando Logan Perez (AGAINST THE PLAGUES) and guitarist Mike "E.D." Day (RUINS OF HONOR, BILDEBERG, ALTERNATE15) to the group's ranks.

Perez will enter the studio this coming week to begin recording VEX's new full length-album, "Thanatopsis", for a tentative August release via Aethena Records.

Commented Orlando: "I'm very excited and have been undergoing different levels of positive anxiety for this upcoming session. It's kind of like the same feeling that I had when I took my last final exam in college knowing that victory would be inevitable regardless on my performance. So, yes, I am confident that the sessions will go smoothly. I haven't done a great deal of vocal preparation for this simply because I feel that a subtle rawness added to the general atmosphere of the music itself, would be interesting; and also so it doesn't sound too predictable and manufactured."

According ot the band's official bio, VEX's 2002 "Sphereith" demo earned much critical praise from publications such as Terrorizer, Wormgear, Metallion and Metalside, among others, and helped the band earn gigs all over Texas, including shows with national touring acts such as MOONSPELL, KATATONIA, DAYLIGHT DIES, DEICIDE, IMMOLATION and HATE ETERNAL. In early 2003, SHADOWS FALL guitarist Matt Bachand personally selected the VEX track "Eyes of Wrath" to appear on the annual compilation released by his label Lifeless Records. Afer a few more years of steadily gigging, including an appearance at the 2004 Milwaukee Metalfest, VEX ventured out to Noise Farm Studios to record a three-song promo. This recording showcased a much more aggressive and organically atmospheric approach than on "Sphereith". To promote this release, VEX played a steady stream of local shows and embarked on a succesful West Coast Tour with GODLESS RISING and AVENGER OF BLOOD in August 2006.
